Enhancing Urban Housing through PMAY-U 2.0 Implementation

📌 Summary:

• PMAY-Urban has been implemented since 25.06.2015 to provide all-weather pucca houses with basic civic amenities to eligible urban beneficiaries
• Revamped PMAY-U 2.0 'Housing for All' Mission launched w.e.f. 01.09.2024 to support 1 crore additional eligible beneficiaries; it runs through four verticals — Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) and Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS)
• Demand-driven design (no fixed targets): States/UTs assess needs via Urban Local Bodies; beneficiaries validated by States/UTs; proposals cleared by State-Level SLSMC (headed by Chief Secretary) and central CSMC
• Progress: 127.68 lakh houses sanctioned (16.20 lakh under 2.0), 121.03 lakh grounded, 99.07 lakh completed/delivered as on 13.07.2026
• J&K: 45,982 houses sanctioned (2,120 under 2.0), 43,907 grounded, 35,961 completed
• Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs), launched July 2020 for migrant workers/urban poor, evolved into a dedicated ARH vertical under 2.0 using two PPP/public models; EoI issued for new ARH units
• ISS provides interest subsidy to eligible EWS, LIG and Middle Income Group households
