India Orders ‘Seafarer-First’ Response, Intensifies Maritime Vigil in West Asia after Strait of Hormuz Attacks

• Amid an escalating maritime security crisis in West Asia following attacks on two merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal launched a ‘Seafarer-First’ whole-of-government response to safeguard every Indian seafarer in the region
• Ordered measures: real-time vessel-by-vessel monitoring, a dedicated liaison officer for every affected Indian seafarer, and round-the-clock (24x7) coordination
