Indian Navy to Induct Indigenous Stealth Frigate Mahendragiri into the Eastern Fleet

• Mahendragiri (F38), the sixth Project 17A indigenous stealth frigate, to be commissioned into the Eastern Fleet at Visakhapatnam on 11 July 2026, presided over by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh

• Designed in-house by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai; over 75% indigenous content — showcased as a success of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and MSME participation in defence shipbuilding

• Features advanced stealth (reduced radar signature), high automation, and indigenous weapons/sensors/EW systems for anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare

• Also capable of maritime security operations, Search & Rescue, and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) with sustained IOR deployments

• Named after the Mahendragiri range in the Eastern Ghats — first Indian Naval warship to bear the name; motto: 'Mighty–Majestic–Matchless'
