Indian Navy set to commission Mahendragiri, sixth Project 17A indigenous stealth frigate

• Indian Navy will commission Mahendragiri (F38), the sixth Project 17A stealth frigate, at Visakhapatnam on 11 July 2026
• Designed in-house by the Navy's Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL), Mumbai
• Named after the Mahendragiri mountain range in the Eastern Ghats; first Indian naval warship to bear the name
• Over 75% indigenous content, embodying the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative; construction engaged many MSMEs, generating employment
• Advanced stealth features: reduced radar signature, enhanced survivability, high automation; CODOG (Combined Diesel or Gas) propulsion
