• NHAI will empanel IITs and reputed technical institutions for independent proof-checking of hydraulic studies and the design of major bridge structures on all new National Highway projects
• Around 12 IITs - including IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur - have expressed willingness to collaborate
• Major bridges are designed for a service life of 100 years or more; the independent review covers structural design calculations, engineering drawings, construction methodology, geotechnical investigations and hydraulic studies
• The framework will apply uniformly across all modes/formats of construction, creating a consistent nationwide quality-assurance mechanism
